The tragedies of our world -- war, oppression, poverty and want -- can so easily overwhelm us that we turn inward. We tend to shut down our hearts so we don't drown in the suffering around us. It hurts too much to care sometimes. Using this feeling of being overwhelmed, we can find a path of strength that leads us to not shut down, but to open up more and become stronger, kinder, more compassionate and true forces of peace in the world.
