When Leonard Cohen took to the stage for the first time in 1967 he walked off the stage twice before coming back a third time to finish his song. Not a promising start. So often we judge these early efforts as proof of the presence or absence of talent, but they’re often anything but. More than talent, it’s perseverance and hunger that determines long-term growth and success in creative efforts.
