DJ Jazzy Jeff, the legendary hip-hop producer behind the Fresh Prince, reinvented himself as George Glass to break into soul and R&B — a genre that wouldn’t accept his sound under his real name. Using the absurdly nerdy alias (inspired by Jan Brady’s imaginary friend), he mixed Jill Scott’s Grammy-nominated debut, helped launch Musiq Soulchild, and even worked with Eminem and The Roots — all while hiding behind a fake identity to let the music speak for itself.
