TW: SUICIDE, SELF HARM, DEPRESSION NOTE: This episode was recorded weeks before a string of mass shootings in the United States that irresponsible law makers want to blame on Mental health instead of the real issue, nonexistent gun laws. After weeks of seeing peers memorializing peers, Divine wants to talk about mental health , getting the help necessary and what that looks like. On this weeks episode, she talks about living with clinical depression.
She talks about growing up in a culture that minimized mental illness as “lack of faith” as well as a culture that rejected modern therapy. She talks about the resources she had at her disposal when she finally decided to seek help and offers a few for you too! She discusses the judgment that comes with having a mental illness and even the mental hurdles she had to jump over to even get herself the help she needed. It’s a heavy convo so, listen when you’re ready. 💓
