“WTH is sustainability?” is an interview podcast about everything sustainability, the first of its kind in China. The podcast’s host, UB, is a professional tree hugger. Deeply connected to nature, UB is committed to supporting business and society to develop in a sustainable way. The name of the podcast was born out of a street interview done by UB and her friends. They went around the Shanghai parks and alleys and asked many people questions like “have you heard of sustainability?” and “what does sustainability mean to you?” The answers from the security guards, retired Shanghai ayi’s, young parents, college students, and small restaurant owners totally surprised UB. Sustainability, a concept that UB lives every day and preaches as her job, could mean so many different things, sometimes opposite to her understanding, to different people. A more common reaction from others was……“What the heck is sustainability?” To answer this question, UB hopes to explore with people and friends she knows, who are doing interesting and meaningful work in this space, and discuss what the heck sustainability means to them. Meanwhile, UB wants to share their cool stories with the public through this podcast. In this podcast, you can expect an array of sustainability-related topics and stories. Zero-waste lifestyle, wildlife conservation, ESG investment, grassroots movement, green finance, corporate social responsibility, climate change, eco-tourism, green building, new energy, environmental technology, social innovation, sustainable consumption, circular economy, technology for good, environmental education, ocean conservation, environmental justice, and many related social issues. Sustainability can be embedded in everything and anything. Only when all aspects of the economy, environment, and society become sustainable, will humanity develop to endure. What the heck is sustainability could mean different things for everyone. But as long as everyone tries their best to practice sustainability, the world will become a better place.
