「只要信祂」的作者是史篤敦（John H. Stockton, 1813-1877）在1874年所創作的歌曲，1846年，史篤敦在衛理公會的巡迴傳道中開始講道，後來史篤敦協助慕迪（Dwight Lyman Moody,1837-1899）和孫基（Ira D. Sankey,1840-1908）在費城佈道，這首詩歌就是當時在英美佈道會中最流行的福音詩歌。
