The U.S. House recently passed the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.” In this live episode of Rebel Civics, Keith reviews the bill in detail from a constitutional perspective, shooting it full of holes.Congress has far overstepped their delegated authority with this clearly unconstitutional bill. The three possibilities on congress-critters who voted in favor are explored: Are they stupid, do they have a poor memory, or does their goal have nothing to do with reducing violent crime using firearms?Keith goes through the congressional attempt to define “assault rifle,” pointing out that they are either unwilling or unable to define the thing they want to ban. He provides an actual one-sentence definition of a so-called “assault rifle,” offered free to Nancy Pelosi if she should ever become willing to name the thing she hates seeing in the hands of the people. The video version of this episode is available here:https://unsafespace.com/ep0832Links Referenced in the Show:HR1808 (2022) Assault Weapons Ban of 2022:https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/1808HR4296 (1994) Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act:https://www.congress.gov/bill/103rd-congress/house-bill/4296/textRAND metastudy on effects of bans of assault weapons and high capacity magazines:https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/analysis/ban-assault-weapons.htmlMurder rate by State (FBI data 2017):https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/murder-rate-by-stateIntentional homicide rate by State (wiki map, FBI data 2020)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_intentional_homicide_rate#/media/File:Intentional_Homicide_Rate_by_U.S._State.svgDefinition of Armshttps://tenthamendmentcenter.com/2016/06/30/what-does-the-word-arms-mean-in-the-2nd-amendment/About Rebel CivicsHosted by Keith Bessette, Rebel Civics covers the principles of society and government, the ideas upon which America was founded, the history of the development of these principles, and current events in relation to them.
