Hi everyone! Thank you for tuning in to Time for English.

I've seen this phrasal verb "grapple with" a couple of times over the past one week in different news stories. In fact, I've seen it quite many times over the past nine months.

For example, just last week, I read an article from CNN.com, saying "Japan may enter a state of emergency this week as the country grapples with soaring coronavirus cases".

So, are you familiar with the idiom?

When you wrestle with, struggle with, or deal with something, literally or figuratively, you grapple with it. You might grapple with debt. You might grapple with a mathematical problem. You might grapple with a new technology. And right now, people around the world are grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, and the new reality and uncertainty it presents.

We're stuck at home again under the state of emergency. So, let's stay safe and hang in there.

In the meantime, would you like to try a quiz? I'll give you three options, please listen carefully and choose the one that is TRUE. Ready?

When you're grappling with something, you are:
1. competing with it.
2. taking advantage of it.
3. trying to overcome it.
