R: Yeah. kind of party. After party.

J: Kind of ya, kind of.
R: And you are going to birthday party today, Malan.
M: Yes, but we will eat dinner.
R: Okay, so its not a really party?
M: Its not a party. Just friends gathering.
R: which is also nice. How do you make a party? Do you want to talk a little?
H: Yes! Im a teriffic dancer and when I party dance a lot and I drink some beers because it tastes good and it creates good atmosphere.
R: Okay.
J: I also like to dance a lot. But actually I mean you know as I said for me one beer is enough sometimes I have a little bit bored but its not always good but I also actually like to dance a lot its just opportunity needs to be. if there is a wedding or something then its you know its nice but in the night clubs then music often so loud that I would not event consider going there. I shouldn’t damage my ears. Good party with a lot of dancing is best thing in the world, I think really really. And every time I’m dancing I think oh I should do this more because it makes me so happy.

R: We have just talked about that some people drink just to be drunk.

HM: in Denmark.
R: Yes in Denmark. Pretty a lot. I actually got shocked when I came to Denmark and saw all the people, kind of you know, already friday night, sometimes already thursday night in metro/subway you know, all the young girls are drinking from the bottle. In the metro.
(J: Yes. In the metro)
HR: Its very normal in Denmark.
J: For me too, its was enormous shock I mean I can remember the first time that.. and Im from holland which is close I mean its not neighbor country but you know we only have northern Germany in between and so you think that countries have similar tradition but its really quite different with alcohol drinking I mean when I just was in Denmark for 3 months or something there was a big festival in the town where I lived, and I couldn’t believe my eyes because so many especially young girls but really 14, 15 years old, they were so completely drunk on the street. And I have never seen anything like that in Holland.
R: Have you experienced it yourself maybe?
M: Me? oh yes. actually I haven’t… Actually I began to drink when I was very young. (LOL)
R: You are young (LOL).
M: Im young but actually when I was thirteen years old because I had friends who were older than me and I liked to spend time with them so it was natural that I also drank and so I learned how it was to be drunk very early but now actually I don’t like to drink so much so when I was at a boarding school for not so long time ago, it was like people were drinking like every friday and saturday but then I found out that I could actually have a great time and dance all night without drinking.
J: Great!
M: After that experience I found out that I can have a lot of fun and actually dance also without drinking because its.. and also when you go out and you don’t drink often you hear “you don’t drink?!” but its funny because maybe it should be the other way around. Maybe it should be “oh you drink?!” I just thought.

H: Actually in Denmark lately the pattern has changed dramatically. Like the youth is way more healthy and drinking much less.
Before its was like really high but youth today is actually not drinking as much as they used to. its very very low what youth drink in Denmark.
J: Because Ive heard as well that I mean a friend of mine she has three teenage daughters, and she also told me about you know meetings and schools where actually its mostly about parents and not about the kids I mean the teenagers, because the culture of drinking its already old. in that way in Denmark. Its something that parents do thats why its normal for the kids also to do it. So I’m happy to hear that. its changed in a way. its not good for anyone to drink to just to get drank. not good idea.
H: But lately Denmark many youth has a lot of… they think a lot about themselves. so they want to be as perfect as possible. including perfect fitness perfect body perfect cloth perfect grades and that also means no drinking but also means a lot of pressure on themselves.
R: Doing correct thing, right?
H: Now we don’t have so much alcohol problems but now we have like different kinds of challenges in the youth.
R: Its really about self-esteem.
J: Self-esteem ya, ya.
R: You know in two different ways kind of, isn’t it?
HJ: Ya
H: On the paper it looks good but its not.
R: So maybe they are like youth back in the days were as empty as (youth nowadays)… like same kind of…
H: So before, the youth sometimes they hid behind the alcohol because it loosen things up and its easy to create a good atmosphere and its fun when you going out. But today you are hiding behind the some superficial stuff like appearance, your look, your intellectual, ya and stuff like that but its the same.
J: Its really interesting how it can show itself in the different ways. Because Malan what you said also about dancing without drinking – that is really something that has to do, i guess, with your self-esteem that has grown that you can actually do it that you don’t need the alcohol in order to be free and feel great and dancing at the party are not think, I mean I did when I was young I was terrified, I dare to dance even I wanted to, that was horrible because I thought that everybody was looking at me and now I can just do it so I mean i guess it comes with age but..
M: But its actually also because I was very inspired by my friend who doesnt drink and i was so inspired by her so I thought why do we have to, why can we be, if its.. because we often talked about a lot about being like free so I question why can i not be free like all the time by nice?
R: Like being free could be misunderstood right? Sometimes.
M: Ya, exactly.
H: But on the other hand when you get older, elder, its like you don’t drink beer because you want to go dancing and create atmosphere but you drink a beer because it tastes good.
R: Its something else.
H: Ya, It changes. For me. because in the beginning I also drank because I wanted to be like the others and be among the others who were also drank because it was nice and it was fun.
R: In a way to be part of friends.
H: Now i just have to be the way I like.
R: Well, it became pretty long. Thank you friends.
HJM: You are welcome. Thank you!
