I love true crime podcasts and as much as I want to get into this one and as many times as Iâve returned to give it more of a shot I cannot STAND how often the two male and often less informed less researched of the trio interrupt and speak over the woman . The one guy who speaks lazily is the worst . He clearly hasnât ever done any research and is just there to spout inane and entitled commentary that detracts from the story. I hope they read this and fix this . Could be a good podcast . The woman should probably just do one on her own . I bet it would take off even more than this one .
Hahahaha. The highlight of my day came from Devin saying âBYE BROTHERâ in a wrestler voice at the end of this! Cracked me up!
You guys were amazing! Please come back.ð
Listening to the one on Maura Murray. She basically reads direct from Wikipedia page. There is no âresearchâ. And the guys make a mockery of it...I had downloaded two more episodes but I donât think I can stomach it. If the girl went out on her own an actually researched stuff..she would be great.
I have absolutely no idea how this show does not have such a larger following! I love the mysterious content! I love how it is delivered. They go over bizarre topics and explain all of the popular, as well as less popular thoughts and theories. After much conjecture and discussion, they discuss what they believe is the most educated option. I cannot get enough of this show! Auto play!
Iâm sad to read all the terrible reviews that this podcast is getting. Donât listen to the negativity. I looked forward to hearing you guys every week. Iâm sorry.
I guess anyone can have a show now.. just donât act like you had your first beer before it.. and maybe read something more than a Wikipedia entry.. thatâs not âresearchâ thatâs what a child does for a book report.. wanted to like it.. just couldnât ..
What a bunch of whiney, nit-picky reviewers. âMainsplainingâ? Seriously? This podcast sounds like three friends chatting and enjoying each otherâs company. Sure there are interruptions, but itâs typically done to clarify basic information. My biggest issue with the podcast is that I wish the male hosts would take the material a bit more seriously. Devin does a wonderful job.
Steve...stop. You take away from interesting topics that have been well researched. Stop jumping in and adding your two cents because it makes you sound uneducated. In one episode, Steve mansplained breast augmentation and what an IUD was to Devin. He reeks of sexism and constantly talks over Devin. LET HER SPEAK!!
These guys are super horny. Great podcast.
Devin researches her topics well and I enjoy her presentation. Sometimes the guys argue with her or nitpick strange points like wedding rings. Either way, my suggestion for improvement: one should be allowed to present without interruption and then arguments for/against, or crazy theories and jokes, should be discussed. Each host occasionally picks a topic and I think all of them pick interesting cases, but the guys stray off-topic a little too much sometimes. I just found this podcast and I am sad it has ended. For all its foibles, intelligent, reasonable, presentation of mysterious experiences and the unexplained, is hard to find. Thanks for keeping the backlog up for now.
So much rambling. Itâs a shame as the topics are quite good. I just want to tell the crew in the background to stop talking. I would definitely revisit if a serious overhaul were made to the format. As said just so much rambling. The nasally guy is particularly annoying. Nothing on his voice. He just draws everything out to a tedious degree.
Iâm listening to the âBohemian Groveâ and itâs incredibly annoying. The girl (donât know names) is great, but the two guys keep interrupting to say random things, bad jokes, etc. The girl is noticeably annoyed as she tryâs to keep the podcast on track. I subscribed to this podcast but if these guys are consistently a part of this, Iâm going to unsubscribe. Why is it so hard to find a good podcast without having to deal with annoying commentary and bad jokes? An hour long podcast can literally be cut down to around 20 minutes if you cut all the B.S. out. Ugh
I donât get how there could be so many good reviews on this annoying ear assault. Steve is a know-it-all (who happens to know very little) and all three of them constantly interrupt each other with the lamest jokes humanly possible. Theyâre not funny people. Sorry, those are the breaks. Some people just arenât funny and need to just keep their mouths shut much more often, not continuously interrupt the person telling the story because theyâre attention-starved and love to hear the sounds of their own voices. Devin is also constantly bragging about things she knows and things she likes that are supposed to be unique (I guess), and she just comes off as unbearably insecure. Judging by things she has said about medical topics, she is by no means a âsurvivalist EMTâ (whatever that is).The cases they cover are interesting, but the obnoxious and disrespectful jokes they make CONSTANTLY (and I mean constantly) throughout the âshowâ completely annihilate any chance of actually learning something.
Such a great April Fools to have you in my feed. Get another Steve and return!
We miss you guys!!!
A pleasant surprise on a day not known for them. It was good to hear âeveryoneâ back together. ;)
Iâm not a podcast person because my auditory attention span is terrible, but Thinking Sideways actually holds my attention! I love mysteries, and they donât get off topic much so I can actually follow whatâs going on, unlike other podcasts. Iâm only twelve episodes in, but the only problem I have so far is that Steve and Joe seem to really undervalue Devinâs ideas. We all know sheâs the smartest of the trio!
Interesting subjects but the attempt at humor is eye rolling terrible.
I listened to a few episodes (each one worse than the previous one) and couldnât take it anymore. The idea is great. I was so excited to listen and hopefully subscribe, but the hosts are completely uninformed and use jokes as filler. I would not recommend this podcast to anyone.
Yâall quit right when I found you! Kgc was the best episode.
Such intriguing concepts but such irritating hosts! Just stick to the story and stop going on a tangent every ten seconds on something trivial.
This is not a well done or well educated podcast. Itâs like using cheap toilet paper, it works right up until....... it doesnât. And this whole thinking sideways think doesnât work for anyone who wants to be challenged.
Other podcast hosts actually read source material, books even. These hosts admittedly donât, especially on the episode about the Franks. They didnât read Anne Frankâs diary and were talking about how they just read the Wiki page. They go off on too many tangents and say some illogical things. In this episode, they were of the opinion that those who hid Jews during WW2 in Europe probably wouldnât have been treated harshly or sent to camps. Incorrect. Read The Hiding Place where that very thing happened. Research is shoddy to nonexistent and hosts have little sense of history. Glad this podcast is done.
Great topics, great information and a good amount of laughs all while solving some of the worlds best mysteries
I seriously find the topics somewhat interesting but the hosts are so boring. Also why all of the info from most of the podcasts come from articles and no other research or interviews? Not entertaining at all.. sorry
I wanted to like this. But hosts get in the way of the story. Hosts are more interested in appearing interesting than delivering an interesting story.
Its was almost a 4, but..they quit instead of fixing the problems. I like this podcastâs subject matter - and individually I like the hosts - but not together...they argued in a way I wouldnât call banter, & researched in a way i wouldnât call thorough. Itâs as if they needed some relationship counseling to stay together in their ménage a trois. So maybe it was better to call it a divorce.
Hosts are uninformed and go off on tangents. Unsubscribing.
WHY would you need THREE different people to present these stories? 5 min in the first story, Iâm interested in the story line, but all I can now hear is the female saying âsure, sure,â and the deeper voiced guy saying âuh huhâ or âmmhmâ after pretty much EVERY sentence the narrator speaks. Itâs like nails on a chalkboard.
Fantastic podcast, such a diverse range of topics, wonderfully researched and I love the banter between these hosts. Iâve got everyone addicted here on this podcast, leaving it on at work for all to enjoy!!!! Looking forward to more podcasts!!!
This show should be Devinâs entirely. The other hosts seem rather uninformed and simultaneously over confident in their ability to tell a story. The topics are interesting but i just cant stand this show. Too talky and too much editorializing to be considered journalism and many of the facts are reported without context or consideration for the source.
I just started to get into podcasts and looked up one particular case and I started with this podcast. What a waste of an of an hour. It seems they wildy speculate and base their information off Wikipedia and something they have seen on a true crime show, which isn't bad if you had seen it before you recorded but their memory of events is all over the place. And Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, do better. Also it bears pointing out, you're not comedians, you're not funny and the subject matter isn't funny, stop trying so hard.I thought maybe it was me but after reading multiple other reviews it appears I'm not alone in the way I feel. Don't waste your time with this show.
I started listening to this podcast but the hosts are ill-informed, especially the Custerâs Last Stand episode. Only made it about 10 minutes before I had to turn it off.
Conversational fun, with three people who feel like friends. Topics can be dark and irreverent, so avoid if you youâre feeling fragile. The hosts are having fun with this and so should the listeners!
Iâm a fan of the Generation Why podcast and the hosts continually referred to this podcast as some wonderfully essential listen. I made it thru half an episode. Nothing bugs me more than podcasters having these silly inside jokes, and TS has more than its share. The hosts are annoying and are constantly interrupting and talking over each other. The male host with the nasally voice? Ugh. This really could be a great podcast if they could have an entirely different set of hosts. Avoid this one.
I canât stand the banter between the hosts! Iâd rather have a root canal with a rusty nail!
The hosts do not know a lot of key facts in the Brian Shaffer case. They say that no one knows which day was garbage day- this is incorrect. The specific areas the dumpsters were emptied at the dump we searched with cadaver dogs. The hosts also incorrectly say tracker dogs were used in searches.
We are here to listen to the topics. Not to here you excited over your own voice! I donât understand why the hosts have to talk about nonsense and make jokes during it. Very annoying.
This podcast deals with some very interesting topics, and unlike some other reviewers I actually like the banter and the casualness of it.But they really need to organize their thoughts better. They go off on so many tangents that the thread of the actual story is repeatedly lost. Which can be maddening late infuriating when youâre trying to piece it together. Itâs as if they assume you already know the story, but Iâm guessing most listeners do not. Also whatever you do donât listen to the one about the woman disappearing on the cruise ship. It is literally 50 minutes of Devon talking about her experience working on a cruise ship and about 10 minutes of the actual case. It is the most annoying episode on the entire podcast series.
I just discovered this podcast a few months ago, right when they announced theyâre ending it... and Iâm devastated!!! MY OPINION: This is a podcast about Unsolved Mysteries. I have yet to find another podcast I enjoy that features mysteries other than just true crime. The first episode I listened to was âLake City Quiet Pillsâ . The quality of this show was immediately apparent. It was so exciting because good âUnsolved Mysteryâ Podcasts are hard to come by! You know, most âmystery podcastsâ are True Crime stuff only. Thinking Sideways does feature some true crime stories- episodes about missing persons/disappearances, also sometimes mysterious deaths. They also feature mysteries of the sea/lost ships, internet mysteries, cryptozoology type mysteries, general conspiracies, scientific mysteries, extraterrestrial mysteries, and so much more.ABOUT THE PODCAST: This podcast has three hosts (Joe, Steve, and Devin). Each episode they begin by telling us the mystery: telling us the story in detail and giving us the known facts. Then, they go through their list of âTheoriesâ which is a pretty comprehensive list of all the theories that are out there that people have come up with to explain the mystery, and they debate with each other and talk them through and decide which is most likely. THE HOSTS: they are all intelligent and have lots of expertise and personal experience to contribute. Even if the episode is about a mystery youâve heard a thousand times before, these hosts offer so much extra information thatâs relevant to the story. They really do their research too. Joeâs technological expertise reaches far and wide and includes understanding encryption/decryption (episodes âKryptosâ and âThe Beale Cypherâ) and heâs also an experienced sailor (âThe Mary Celesteâ)Steve also has technological and engineering expertise, in episodes about planes, trains, etc mysteries, he explains clearly in laymenâs terms how they work and what went wrong (check out the episode âTWA Flight 800â). His knowledge of computers/website programming is utterly impressive in episodes like âOct282011.comâ Devin is certified in SAR(search and rescue) and also has broad knowledge and experience of being at sea, having once worked on a large cruise ship which adds so much behind-the-scenes/ insider info to the episode âDisappearance of Rebecca Coriamâ and her SAR experience shines on missing person episodes (especially the episode âWhat happened to Kenny Veach?)
lord help me.
Iâve been listening to you for the last three years and Iâm sad to see you go! Your critical thinking and discussion of each possible angle is interesting and thought provoking. Although nautical episodes were by far not a favorite, I listened anyway because it helped me open up new ways of thinking.
I will forever go back and relisten to any available episodes!! This podcast helped me through a very stressful time and kept me company during my loneliest days as a hotel housekeeper. Thinking Sideways Podcast will always hold a special place in my heart!
Thank goodness that I have tons of episodes to binge on... sad to see that you all donât do this show anymore but you sure have covered a lot!!! I highly recommend this podcast to ANYONE who loves a great mystery and likes to hear ALL the details and ALL the possible theories out there that might explain why or what or how... I LOVE all the different thoughts and ideas and I think you three make a GREAT TEAM! What can I subscribe to next that you all host??!!
Um..I have never been so annoyed listening to a podcast that is supposed to help victims and bring awareness to their cases. Come On guys. The unbearable scream- laughing is disturbing.Devon can never get a word in.She needs her own show without the obnoxious, what seems like desperate attempts for attention from the other dude always howl laughing bc he thinks everything is hilarious..? TF man? Please Stop with the clap track. On a true crime podcast.Itâs.Ugh.
Thank you for the strange and wonderful adventure. I will truly miss the three of you. One of my favorite podcasts, Iâve been listening for years and the show just gets better. The hosts share a chemistry that other podcasts must be envious of; huge range of always interesting topics and great audio quality. I wish they would quit their jobs and podcast full time.
The podcast is well researched and put together, with fascinating stories and lots of personality. That said, the two male hosts constantly interrupt, patronize, and nitpick when the female host is speaking. It impacts the entertainment value of the podcast to cringe every five minutes when Joe or Steve feels the need to disagree or correct even the smallest points, frequently not providing evidence and leaving it at âI wouldnât say thatâ or âthatâs a bit extremeâ. I wish they could be better.
I really enjoy what these guys have to offer. Great stories and fantastic chemistry make for an enjoyable podcast.
Pretty good. This podcast is a +1/-1 depending on your love for the dad jokes.
