This week The PMO Podcast™ Featured Story presents, "Change Happens," presented by Mark Perry (about Mark), host of The PMO Podcast™. Have you heard the saying, "the only thing that is constant is change?" Change happens in projects and project managers need to demonstrate flexibility when dealing with change, communicating the change effectively, and knowing when to say no. Today, we have a list of some of the changes and the way they happen over the course of the project. Of course, this isn’t an exhaustive list, but it should help to get you thinking about the way changes occur so that you can figure out how you may want to deal with them when they come along.
The PMO Podcast™ Points Memo discusses, “Competing Needs of Stakeholders." In many projects and especially large ones, there can be competing and conflicting needs of stakeholders. Stakeholders come from a variety of areas within the organization. Often, one stakeholder’s concerns are focused on the aspects of the project that deal with and affect their organization. And another stakeholder may have completely different concerns. For example, for a CRM implementation the Sales VP may have different concerns than the Customer Care VP. As Project Manager, often you have to understand and balance these needs and concerns in order to keep everyone working together as a team.
