I am an avid podcast listener and this one has quickly become my favorite. The interviews are extremely interesting and I am thoroughly enjoying listening to all the previous episodes. Thanks for providing such a great podcast.
This mindbending conversation with quantitative psychologist Don Hoffman absolutely blew my mind...both of them. If that statement is baffling, I recommend you listen to Episode 026: Reality Isnât.
Great guests and topics and insightful questions. Perfect level of depth that respects the listeners. Just wish there were weekly episodes.
Great podcast! Thank you for bringing these amazing minds out of their focused worlds/work and allowing us to experience their passion!
What an incredible podcast. The host does a lot of research for each episode in order to give listeners the best chance to become pretty knowledgeable about the episodeâs topic.I have always been a sci-fi fan and like to follow basic advances in the sciences. This podcast is truly fascinating for those of us who love hearing about âjust around the cornerâ possibilities in tech.
Informative, interesting and palatable. Seriously just try a few episodes they are all great and Rob is a wonderful interviewer, bringing you tons of knowledge from a slew of experts that are as entertaining as they are informative.
Each episode seems to be even better than the last. A fun novel has spawned a wide-ranging conversation that I hope continues on!
This is one of the best podcasts in science and technology. I've listened to many episodes now. They're really thoughtful and informative.
Rob Reid has a genius ability to articulate complex concepts into terms most of us can understand, as well as interview leaders of cutting edge technology and ideas. I strongly recommend the After On podcast to anyone who enjoys learning about new concepts, ideas, and technologies.
Must listen. Am recommending this podcast to all my friends
Excellent commentary and interviews into subject matter not often shared on other podcasts.
Rob Reid has a gift for bringing out the best insights his diverse and brilliant guests have to offer. This is easily one of the best podcasts out there for anyone interested in the future of humanity.
One of the best science podcasts Iâve listened to.
Loving this podcast. I read the book and had then listened to the book-oriented initial episodes. However, I'm finding the continued episodes even more enthraling. Outstanding guests and conversations. I love the approach of not assuming the listener is any kind of expert, but then getting into really solid discussion of the topics. Keep up the good work Mr. Reid!
Easily one of the best podcasts out there. Rob is an extremely talented interviewer who has fascinating guests on and is able to tease out enlightening insights out of each. Multiple episodes have changed the way I think about a subject. Can not recommend highly enough.
Read the transcript on Arstechnica.com before listening. The transcript presented Avi Loebâs argument so well I wanted to retain as much as I could so figured an audible review was worth the time. I seldom trouble to both read a transcript and listen to a podcast but this one was definitely worth the time. Great job Bob!
After teaching a college course to the founder-curious, I relax for an hour drive home every week and lose myself in After On. I find myself days later still telling people about every episode. Thank you Rob Reid!
I always learn something new from Robâs interviews because he goes more into depth than other sources. I learn more about how the world works and about how top people in their fields collaborate and explore the bounds of their professions.
Very much like TED Radio Hour but focusing on one interview and getting waaaaay more in depth on the topic. Several episodes have been genuinely mind-blowing with regards to the near-term possibilities of the technologies discussed. Highly recommend. Only drawback is there is up to 20 minutes per episode of the host giving financial updates and asking you to support on Patreon. At least it's in one block at the beginning or end of each episode rather than ads spread throughout.
I first discovered this podcast when Sam Harris tweeted about the After On episode featuring Don Hoffman (still one of my favorites). It has since worked its way to my top 5 podcasts list. The podcast covers a very broad span of topics, yet somehow the topics are always fascinating and Rob is always shockingly knowledgeable about the subject matter. This deep understanding of the subject matter, along with his ability to always find the perfect analogy to simplify a complex concept, is what makes this podcast one of the most satisfying and educational pieces of content Iâve ever encountered.
Nearly every podcast has me saying âwow, that is amazing!â Rob does a great job interviewing leading thinkers and constantly stretches my thinking about the present and the future.
This podcast is incredible - Robâs network somehow includes top tier academics, executives, scientists, and other professionals from pretty much every industry across the board. More than that, Rob is simultaneously able to simplify complicated topics - so that everyone can understand - but also ask insightful and pointed questions, so that it never feels like the conversation is being âdumbed downâ for those of us new to the concept. My curiosity is ignited by literally every episode, regardless of the topic. After On has quickly become one of my go-to podcasts... I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes podcasts, or is interested in relevant, exciting information (which hopefullllllly is everyone ð¤·ââï¸) Go Rob!
Many podcasts offer a glimpse, an amuse bouche of topics - I love them all the same for it. But the After On Podcast is the whole meal (and a glass of wine, if you like). The depth in which topics are explored is fantastic, and the information is presented such that you donât need to be an expert in the field, or often even have cursory knowledge of it, prior to the episode. An amazing format. While Iâve never in the past pitched in a review âyou should support this podcast,â I make a break from that here. Supporting the show on Patreon nets you the supporters feed for additional content, and itâs truly worth it.This, my friends, is what a podcast should be, top to bottom.
Rob has found a fantastic niche of intellectually stimulating guests and content. Highly recommend.
Itâs obvious how much effort Rob puts into these shows. They are well organized, with questions and analysis that not only inform but also tell a story in a way that could only have been accomplished via thorough research and detailed preparation. I find these to be truly fascinating discussion between brilliant people. Keep it up Rob!
I love this podcast. Rob Reid is an amazing individual with amazing friends in diverse fields. I feel honored that he shares with me these intimate conversations exploring critical topics of our exponential scientific age. For each episode, his deep preparation engages his guest with such familiarity that critical nuances bubble to the top for in every fascinating conversation.
intriguing and informative interviews with brilliant minds expertly guided by a fantastic author!
Been a fan of Rob Reidâs books over the years. But his pod cast is mind blowing. Everyone I listen to I learn so much and is usually blow away with what the future looks like. The George Church episode (he solving the organ donor problem, and quite likely has) is a must listen. But also listen to Mary Lou Jespen talk about the future of MRIs (they will be able to read your thoughts) and Steve Jurvetson on quantum computing (do they really run in different universes).Update: Rob keeps on producing great stuff, his lasted about the Science & Practice of Happiness is a must hear.
Great podcast episodes too long though . Could edit 30 minutes out of most of the discussions.
A joy every episode. Possibly the Sarah Parcak and Stewart Brand episodes are my two favorite podcast episodes ever. Top two podcast episodes from one Podcast? Rob Reid is doing something very good here.
I recommend this podcast to my friends and acquaintances for its in-depth conversations covering fascinating topics. While the other science podcasts I listen to have become distracted by the current political climate, After On has stayed true to its mission, making it even more important that its filling this niche, and doing it so well. Rob Reid is an excellent interviewer with a great personality, a look forward to every episode.
Understanding reality is made so easy. Can converse intelligently with people of any pursuit. Absolutely unique idea. Arguably the best podcast on apple
Great discussions on science, technology and philosophy that are not 'dumbed down'. If you enjoy knowledgeable people discussing their work and interests, try this podcast.
Robâs guest interactions and editing make for very engaging and thought-provoking podcasts. I often spend some time after each listening session discussing the ideas or details covered in each episode with my family. The target audience is educated listeners but I think most anyone would find a typical episode interesting and very informative.
After On is a high quality podcast with truly in-depth, well-done interviews about amazing topics. Rob Reid is a skilled, knowledgeable interviewer, and the guests are top-notch. Well worth the time and support.
Discovered this goldmine not too long ago and it has quickly become my favorite podcast. Highly recommend!!
This is simply the most well informed, informative, and organized podcast in existence.
The material is always mind-expanding, if not entirely mind-blowing. Rob is a lively and impressively informed host, but he does his best to make the material comprehensible to the layman. Given the nature of the material, this layman finds himself struggling from time to time to cram the concepts into his tiny mind, but that's not Rob's fault. Keep it up!
The host is clearly very articulate and he has some very interesting guests. The biggest issue (which the host might admit but may perhaps fail to see the consequence of), is that 1) the host seems to only invite guests that agree with his views on a particular topic and 2) only discusses the said topic (plus some pleasantries). This causes most of the episodes to devolve into fanboy-ish tribalism. If you're looking for lively debates or critical engagement with a particular topic, this podcast isn't for you.
This is a great podcast. A must listen for my car. Each episode is a great deep dive into a technical subjects. And Rob does some great research for each guest. I'm always surprised how knowledgeable he is on a subject and of his guests.
I love listening to these interviews and hearing so much more in-depth knowledge about far-flung topics. I was introduced to this podcast when they were rehosted on a different site, but went back to listen to the source and love every one that Iâve heard.
Really glad I found this podcast! Great work, great ideas.
Easily in my top 5 podcasts of all!Combines unhurried discussions of world changing technology with philosophy and likely impacts on people, delivered in a very pleasant format. Iâm always up to date on it.
This is a great podcast. This guy puts in some intellectual rigor into this and it shows.
Rob Reid delivers more useful knowledge in one of these podcasts than I've obtained in many university courses. I've been listening since the early days, when each podcast was an expansion of themes covered in the novel After-On, and they've just gotten better and better. Oh, the novel is great, and you really should read it. But even if you never do, listen to these podcasts. They are superb.
Content thatâs wonderfully deep and thoughtful, presented clearly enough that all you need is an open and active mind.
Rob Reid's podcast is a collection of excellent long-format conversations with experts in various incredible fields. He is very well researched as an interviewer going into each conversation (such that if you are an expert in that topic you won't be left screaming at your phone or car stereo listening to the episode). This podcast is wonderful.
Like a direct download to the brain, Iâve experienced a distinct lessening of ignorance over the past number of months. The After On Podcast puts intensely complex but fundamentally important concepts into terms a non STEM person like me can get my arms around. I canât tell you how many âahaâ moments Iâve had here. Keep it coming. Iâm hooked.
There are few episodes I look forward to more than this one. Every episode offers an insightful view on an exciting topic. Great host and great choice of interviewees who allow me to get to know my world with more depth and appreciation.
