Anna Deavere Smith's Search for American Character

Playright, actress and professor Anna Deavere Smith examines how Americans are using social movements to push for political change today -- speaking out against gun violence following the Parkland shooting and addressing sexual harassment with the #MeToo movement. She also opens up about her new HBO film, "Notes From the Field," based on 250 interviews with teachers, former inmates, protesters and politicians, which explores race, police shootings and the school-to-prison pipeline.
