This week Steph chats to Chris Frank, a clinical counselor about mental illness, and the stigmas connected with them, especially within the church.  Both Steph and Chris talk from personal experience about struggling against mental illness and the different roles medical professionals have played in helping them and those close to them.

Listen in to find out the difference between primary and secondary emotions and how they impact our mental health; how stigmas from society and the church impact mental health freedom and how we, as leaders and individuals, can support ourselves and others towards better mental health.

Discussion:

1) How does it help to state: ‘I am struggling against depression’ rather than ‘I am depressed.’ How can our language help tear down stigmas?

2) One of the definitions of shame is a feeling of not being enough. Where do you struggle with that and what lies are you believing that impact your mental health?

3) What positive things can you do to support your own mental health and the mental health of those who you lead?
