Great insight into topics with a sense of humor. Thank you.
Really well done and educational, but entertaining
Daniele redefines the meaning of Italian master.
If you care about understanding who we are and why, history is the answer. Daniele gives a lot of praise to Dan Carlin for inspiration. All I can say is these two are my absolute favorites when it comes to learning about history.
History on fire has to be one of the best if not the best podcast Iâve heard. Soo many great stories and an in depth look at what was going on during the time. I truly enjoy it, Iâve only just recently started listening to the episodes and I look forward to hearing every single one.
Daniele Bolelli is a master story teller. At first, his Italian accent is a little thick, but give it 15 minutes of perfectly delivered historical narrative and you donât even notice it anymore. This guy is a true beast of knowledge, and seems more grounded and confident in his skillsâwhilst maintaining a humble charmâthan anyone podcasting that I can think of. And Iâm a podcast junky. His passion during each podcast episode is unrivaled. You can tell he loves some of the characters he speaks of, and you feel yourself connecting with famous people and famous events from hundreds of years ago. My road trip out west and visiting the Battle of Little Bighorn monument was made 100 times more epic thanks to this podcast. History on Fire has the absolute best series on the subject, and it made the visit unforgettable. You know what? I think Iâve convinced myself in writing this: History on Fire is better than Hardcore History (I still love you Dan! You just make me wait too long.)
Daniele is an amazing historian, his stories are so interesting and as well researched and thought out as a college research report. Thereâs literally no place you can go to to get more info on history like joan of arc or crazy horse. Theyâre all individual movies on their own.
This guy really runs on. Reminds me of the worst lecturers: the ones who love to hear themselves talk. Uses a little information to fill a lot of time. He could have told the ice man story in 30 minutes, instead he took more than an hour and a half. I wonât bother to listen to more episodes.
Bolelli's delivery is very entertaining and still intellectually stimulating. Also, his intro music is great!
Presentation is sincere, studied, and insightful. Bias against Christianity (sure spent a lot of time on that) works against a balanced view of many streams in history in human behavior, like the issues of Roman rule and itâs emperors. Still, I respect this effort. We need more podcasts on history, I am not into commentary.
Once you get past the pizzia parlor accent there good Info-tainment here
For anyone who loves history you definitely need to add this to your regular rotation.
If you can get passed a hard and thick Italian butchery of the English language, youâll be pleasantly surprised to find arguably one of the best history programs to ever be released. Iâve listened to roughly 90% of the show thus far and have yet to find an episode that didnât draw me in. The biggest issue I have is sometimes starting an episode knowing the conclusion wonât be released for another month..... (totally kidding about your accent too brother!)
Thanks joe for sending me here.
This podcast is gift donât sleep on it any longer. Quit wasting time and meet your ancestors.
Excellent historical work. Great listen.
I have learn so much about history!
Daniele can you please do a podcast about the history of Poland
I just found this series of history stories, ancient and modern, told in a voice I love to listen to. I find myself always looking forward to the next one. I try not to binge though today Iâm doing a ton of laundry and Daniele Bolelli is a welcome companion. The historic stories are told with the best effort towards honesty of the times they take place. Loving it!
Love this podcast! The Joan of Arc series has been a highlight for me, but anything earlier has been great too. Lots of older episodes I canât wait to get to. Fans of Carlin will love him and those who are critics of him might find this one refreshing. This podcast is no doubt in the upper echelon of the history podcast space!
He is a great storyteller who has researched his topic and in telling the story of the Slave Wars his inner fire brings to life the characters so that you can almost see them in your mind. I love it.
If you love history, be ready to be binging on this podcast hardcore.
Awesome and neatly descriptive in a fun way! I enjoyed learning about the Battle of the Little Big Horn in the War for the Black Hills and listening to both sides of the story. Very fair in the telling in many of Danieleâs series!
Around 2002, I had the pleasure of taking a course on the history of martial arts with Prof Bolelli at UCLA. He was a humble, engaging and intelligent professor who was always willing to go out of his way to help you grow as a person. I havenât seen him in 16 years or so but today I was thinking of one of my favorite people in history in Spartacus and went to the Podcast search and to my serendipity came across Prof Bolelliâs engaging podcast. It was great to hear his voice again and I will be sure and subscribe to all of his future shows! Cheers to a great human being!
The episodes on Crazy Horse were wonderful. Always enjoy the depth this podcaster goes to keep you interested in history and love the way he tells the story!!!
You know whatâs more frustrating and annoying than the lack of the UTTERLY STANDARD feature on the Apple Podcast app which would allow you to sort and refine reviews by positive/negative ratings, or better yet, by each star rating, instead of having to slog through dozens if not hundreds of glowing 5 star reviews , many of which were potentially paid-for, until you get to a single one that is even slightly critical? This podcastâs host/creator/narratorâs accent. It is 10x more annoying than what I just described in the insanely long sentence above. Also, his ad-pushing (and along with that, his ad-free subscription, for a monthly fee of course, pushing). Worst of all, though, are his highly questionable scholarly, ethical, and ideological issues. This is not the guy you want to acquire knowledge of history from. Iâm beginning to think that can only be done reliably in a classroom setting and via oneâs own careful of well sourced books. This is pop history at its worst. Donât fall for the trap.
Daniele is the man, and its great to hear some of his own takes on the history he is presenting in a really human way. I never feel like its a boring lecture, I'm always awaiting his next work. Your fan from San Diego, Kris
Iâve only recently stumbled across this podcast and am I ever thankful I found it. Especially with the terrible dearth of episodes coming from Dan Carlinâs Hardcore History the last couple of years, this is now by far my favorite history podcast. He tells a good story, hitting what for me is a sweet spot between detail and brevity. He does well at giving the listener a glimpse of what life might have been like in the times he is âstoryingâ about. This is great stuff, just lots of entertainment and fun.
I've listened to lots of historical podcasts and this one ranks among the top. Very informative and well laid out.
Such a fun and interesting podcast! Daniele makes historical events easily digestible and funny! Highly recommend!
Just started this fantastic podcast, but I hope the sound levels are better in the later episodes. The theme music nearly blows out my headphone speakers (and my eardrums...) every time it plays at the beginning and the end..
I just started listening this week, Joe Rogan mentioned you and so I had to check you out! I just have to say, the way you describe things is amazing. I canât stop listening! Side note - E32B - at the beginning when you are talking about sponsors, the Blue Apron Knife Fight made me laugh so hard! Also, you wear your fanny pack with pride! Thanks for making me want to learn again and the occasional hard belly laughs.
If you like to get lost during your daily functions, History on Fire is for you.
Just discovered this podcast and I canât stop listening.
Such an incredible Podcast. Love it when these guys breathe life into historical events thy educate AND inform. Bravo!
You never stop learning.
If you like Hardcore History, Danielle has a similarly rewarding story telling format and well researched content.
I wish I could understand the speaker better, his accent is just to heavy. Oh well.
Edit: this podcast is still at a much lower volume than any other podcast. I need to put the volume all the way up just to make sure I catch it all.Danielle and Dan Carlin are the GOATs of history podcasts. My only issue would be that he records it at a lower volume than all of my other podcasts. Even with that, 10/10
Great stories from a great storyteller, clearly one of the highest quality history podcasts out there.
Just reading all the enthusiastic reviews from the loyal listeners of this podcast prompted me to put in a review without even downloading any episodes yet!!! I am totally looking forward to listening to more podcasts in the same style as Dan Carlin's Hardcore History & am so glad that at last....I have found my tribe:)
I love this podcast I just wish I had access to all the episodes from apple.
Spent thirty minutes of one episode wondering why Cortez brought three âsheepâ with him into Mexico, before realizing he meant shipsð. Nevertheless, his Italian accent does not impede his wealth of detailed knowledge and fascinating stories from centuries before, which he shares in this podcast. If you enjoy Dan Carlinâs Hardcore History podcast, History on Fire offers a similar look into the drama, blood, betrayal and everyday lives long past.
The moment I heard his thick accent I though âoh crapâ. I wanted to learn something, not to waste energy deciphering what was being said. I am so glad I listened. He speaks slowly and is very easy to understand. You can really feel his love of history and his enthusiasm. I learned so much and loved every minute of it.
What a boring podcast with such a narrow and biased perspective.
One of the best podcasts around, especially for folks who want to better understand the past.
I have loved every episode I have listened to thank you
Excellent storyteller! The podcasts are long however I enjoy that and they keep me engaged. Its history after all. Keep it up Daniele. And Holy smoke, I read the critical reviews of this podcast and those very few are in the dark ages. You cannot criticise a persons accent when the spoken english is very clear. If you also expect a 15min excerpt, then you dont understand the subject and if you could read, you will notice the length is stipulated. If one needs to complain, rather spend time posting selfies on instagram
